PROGRAMS
The National Congress of Vietnamese Americans (NCVA) currently has the following programs to
further our mission of increasing participation of Vietnamese Americans and
Asian Pacific Americans in the political process at the national, state and
local levels on issues that impacts the communities of interests, including
education, health, immigration and public policy.
Forums
Leadership
Conferences
The signature leadership program,
Vietnamese American Youth Leadership
Conference, aims to raise awareness of issues, provide skills necessary
to participate in the solution process, and network interested persons with
non-profit organizations. Our goal is to provide a forum for young
professionals and students to network and build professional relationships
to lead and strengthen the Vietnamese American and Asian Pacific American
communities.
As of 2005, 181 young leaders from over 23 states
and 3 countries have participated in the program.
Survey results indicate:
- 69.2% use skills and knowledge learned from
training
- 38.5% increase in community involvements
among participants
- 28.2% have completed an internship
Some success stories include creating a social
justice 101 college class, rehabilitating Hurricane Katrina damaged homes,
organizing high school to college preparation seminars and conducting leadership
training for peers.
Internships
NCVA is committed to building the capacity of
the next generation of Vietnamese American leaders. Through Internship
opportunities, NCVA provides interns with hands-on experience working in a
national non-profit organization. Additionally, interns gain experience
working with other local and national organizations and leaders on issues
that impact Vietnamese Americans. NCVA offers internships in our Washington,
DC office.
